Battle of the Twins

In the heyday of the Battle of the Twins there was a theory that since it was not practical to achieve equal length, equal restriction exhausts for the front and rear that one should tune them differently. I heard a lot of "front for torque, rear for revs."

It started with advancing the front cam and retarding the rear. And it actually seemed to work. Then teams tried running more lift on their late opening fronts and more duration on their early opening rears. It seemed to work better.

Team Yamaha ran magnetos on these motors with different advance curves on the two cylinders. They also spun them up to 12000RPM.

More to come . . .
