A Kick Starter for the XV

First, let's get rid of the idea of using a left-side kicker. Up front, it would need to be either mounted too high to be useful, or, if mounted low, there simply wouldn't be enough supporting material for it and to put up with the stress of use. Toward the rear there is no room up high, and below is a serpent's nest of clutch throw-out parts and shifter linkage and mechanism. Also, left kickers are awkward for right-footed (and -handed) people, and ask a lot of the side stand.

So it's off to the right side and the "natural" thrust against the teeth of the clutch basket. This can give a favorable amount of leverage and it can keep the mechanism fairly simple by following conventional practices. There is a fair amount of material in the case there and the engine mounts and footrest mount also could provide support.

More to come . . .
