The TR1

The TR1 was strictly an Eastern Hemisphere bike. The closest thing like it that sold in the Americas was the XV920RH/RJ chain-drive. TR1s were in the main black-engined and chain-driven. But not always. Due to the "grey market" a lot of bikes were sold in markets for which they were not intended. Sometimes the only way to tell one is to pull the top end. If the cylinder deck is flat and there is a single metal or composite gasket between the cylinder and head, you have a Virago. If the deck is grooved and there is a metallic ring around the bore and a separate o-ring for the cam chain tunnel, you have a TR1. Unless you are in the Americas and disassembled a Gen I 750 or 920. If this is still unclear, measure the volume of the combustion chamber: if it is 55cc, you have a TR1. If it is anything else, you have some Virago variant. Except -- there was a very rare chain-drive 750 with magnesium cases produced in '82, '83 (?). It was called a TR2 or XV750R. Only enough of these bikes were produced for homogulation to make racing them legal. It is unclear if they were ever actually campaigned.
