Time Savers

Some things that should save you time. Some of it is quick and dirty and should only be used if you pull your motor often and do NOT intend to sell it. If it's a runner that's just tired, you can skip all the measuring equipment - it's not going to be raced. Note that unless the oil filter has gone in backward, you don't need to worry about the crank and the rockers. Unless there is a noise in the lower end that does not go away with a good linkage cleaning, the cases probably can stay together. You can skip all the porting stuff, except the intake post must be enlarged to match the rubber flanges. It doesn't have to be neat -- a single pass with a coarse cutter should do.

You can smear valve grinding compound on the seats and spin the valves in either direction until you get a clean ring. NOTE: use a piece of hose over the valve stem and into the chuck. Most drill chucks are much harder than valve stems and you would leave scars that would have to be ground off for the retainers to fit. Be careful to wipe all the grinding paste out.

More to come . . .
