Cam Timing

Timing is that part of crank rotation at which the cam and actuators lift the valve face off its seat to its working height. The early the lift stars, the more low-end power is favored; the later, more top-end. All bets are off with cams of extreme (>270°) duration; this must necessarily open early and close late; they increase power all over, but due to the erratic pulses at slow engine speeds, idle must be set rather high.
